For the 13th edition of the Celebrity Open, the FairPlay Foundation is delighted to announce that former All-Pro and NFL Defensive Player of the Year Ed Reed of the Baltimore Ravens will serve as the 2011 Grand Marshal.  Reed, a St. Rose native and  Louisiana All-State defensive standout at Destrehan High School, was a member of the 2001 University of Miami Hurricanes college national championship team.  Reed, #5 on the list of the Hurricanes’ 25 Most Beloved Figures in Team History was also a member of the school’s track and field team and Big East Champion in the javelin.

As a professional, Reed has established Hall of Fame credentials.  As a matter of fact, his jersey and the football used in an NFL record-setting 107-yard interception return against the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2008 season are now on display at Canton in the Hall of Fame.

“I am thrilled to have been asked to serve as the Grand Marshal for the 2011 New Orleans Celebrity Open,” said NFL superstar Ed Reed.  “Nothing is more important to the future of New Orleans than the future of the city’s youth.  As we continue the rebirth of this great city, the FairPlay Foundation through the Celebrity Open and its other activities is helping to make sure that the future is a bright one for young people.  I hope you’ll join me in supporting this important golf tournament.”

The Baltimore Ravens’ first-round draft pick in 2002 was named to his first Pro Bowl in 2004 and is a member of the Sporting News’ Team of the Decade (2000s).  He became the only player unanimously selected for the Associated Press’ 2008 NFL All-Pro Team.

Outside of the game, Ed Reed has devoted a considerable amount of time, talent and treasure to youth, a commitment that has been demonstrated by his agreement to serve as the 2011 New Orleans Celebrity Open Grand Marshall.

WELCOME ED REED!
